DECEMBER 14: INTERMEDIATE HIKE: NORTH SONOMA MOUNTAIN TRAIL: CONFIRMED. -We will start from the parking lot at 5297 Sonoma Mountain Rd. Park at North Sonoma Mountain Trailhead and hike to Bennett Valley Overlook with approx. 750 ft elevation gain of switchbacks, where we will have lunch. Round trip is approx. 4.5 mi. Options: going further 1.5 miles round trip is climbing the Umbrella Tree/ Vista Trail 1.5 mi. and 400 ft elevation gain. For details see the park map link North Sonoma Mountain Regional Park and Open Space Preserve . Drivers need to bring $7 cash or use a credit card to pay for parking. It is free for Regional Parks members. The park entrance is along Sonoma Mountain Road just east of Pressley Road. Bring poles, liquids and lunch. Leave Berger Center at 9:00 AM. DECEMBER 21st: INTERMEDIATE HIKE: TAYLOR MOUNTAIN – REVISED, CONFIRMED.The hike begins at the Petaluma Hill Road entrance and traverses the Redtail, Western, Lupine Sky and Eastern Trails to the summit and returns by the same route. Distance is 4.5 to 5 miles with 1,000 feet of continual but gradual elevation gain. There are great views overlooking Santa Rosa. Poles and hiking boots are recommended. Lunch is at the summit. We leave from the Berger Center at 9:00. Hike leader is Holly Kelley, 843-3155.
DECEMBER 21ST -LONG HIKE – OLOMPALI STATE HISTORIC PARK – REVISED, CONFIRMED. Hike up a grade serpentine trail to the top of Mount Burdell with great views of southern Sonoma County and neighboring Marin. Return through the historic ranch. Distance is 10 miles with 1600 feet elevation gain Leave Berger at 8:30 AM. Dress in layers and bring plenty of water. Hke leader is Bernie Palk, 537-8662 Rain cancels.
DECEMBER 28th – INTERMEDIATE HIKE – FOOTHILL REGIONAL PARK IN WINDSOR – REVISED, CONFIRMED. This hike is 5 miles, which includes 3 out and backs on three loop trails to lakes. There are good trails that meander through woodlands with ups and downs and approximately 400 feet in elevation gain. Parking is $7 a car, if you don’t have a Regional Park Pass. Leave Berger at 9:00 a.m. Bring water and lunch. Hike leaders are Greg and Jan Conklin. 539-4099
JANUARY 4TH – LONG HIKE – ANNADEL – “THE BUBBLY” –The bubbly hike will be in Annadel, as usual, and since we don’t know for sure what trails will be open we will make a decision when the time gets closer. JANUARY 4th INTERMEDIATE HIKE- ANNADEL- “THE BUBBLY” We will carpool to the Oakmont Community Garden, and hike Live Oak Tr. and Rough Go Tr. to Lake Ilsanjo, where we will have our lunch/snack and a bubbly toast to the New Year. We will then return on Steve’s S Trail and Channel Dr to our cars. Distance is approximate 5.5 miles, with an elevation gain of 500 ft. Bring water and a lunch/snack. Hiking poles are recommended for potential muddy areas. Hike leaders are Frank Batchelor (537-6640) & Larry Maniscalco (538-2089). Leave Berger at 9 a.m.
