OCTOBER 12TH: INTERMEDIATE HIKE: TILDEN REGIONAL PARK – BERKELEY HILLS – Park at the Quarry Lot on Wildcat Canyon Road. Starting on the Sea View Trail  and then heading South, climbing  a fairly strenuous 800 ft. Frequent stops will be made to savor the views. From the high point, we descend via Upper Big Springs trail. After lunch we return via the Quarry trail. Total hike length is about 6 miles with a total elevation gain of 900 ft. Bring lunch, water and poles. Hike departs from Berger Center at 9 AM. Hike Leader is Zlatica Hasa, 843-4527.


OCTOBER 19TH: INTERMEDIATE HIKE – JACK LONDON STATE HISTORIC PARK – This moderate hike will be about 4.5 miles with an elevation gain of approx. 400ft.  We will hike to London lake, the Ancient Redwood and the Historic Orchard.  We will  snack/lunch at picnic tables overlooking the vineyards. Parking is $10 per car so bring your Jack London or Sugarloaf pass if you have one.  Leave Berger in car pools at 9 a.m.  Hike leaders are Susan and Gary Novak, 707-569-6016

OCTOBER 19TH: LONG HIKE – BOOTHE-NAPA – This moderately strenuous hike that follows shaded trails past an old homestead and some view spots, lunch on a hillside that is breeding ground for ladybugs.  And maybe some figs and apples ready to be picked. Distance is about 8 miles with 1000ft of elevation gain. Depart Berger center at 8:30 for the ride to Napa.  Bring lunch and water.  Hike leader is Lynn Pelletier Yvelinepelletier@gmail.com

OCTOBER 26TH: INTERMEDIATE HIKE- SONOMA OVERLOOK TRAIL – This hike is a little over three miles, but has about 400-500 ft. of elevation gain. It starts  and ends in the parking lot at General Vallejo’s house. There are wonderful vistas of Sonoma and the hike returns through the Mountain Cemetery with lots of historical family plots, including the grave of General Vallejo. There will be an optional lunch on the plaza following the hike. The hike leader is Jason Wilkenfeld 707-978-2385

NOVEMBER 2ND: LONG HIKE – LAKE SONOMA PARK –This is a strenuous hike of about 8 miles and elevation gain of about 2000 ft, over varied hilly terrain with rewarding views of the lake and surroundings. Bring seasonally appropriate attire, poles, water and lunch. Leave the Berger at 8:30am, hike leader Martin Johns, 330-815-5167

NOVEMBER 2ND: SHORT HIKE JACK LONDON WOLF HOUSE – We will hike to the Wolf House, museum and London’s Cottage. This is an easy walk of about two miles with minimal elevation gain and on good trails. NOVEMBER 5th: SPECIAL! SUNSET/MOONRISE DORAN BEACH- From Bodega Bay, hikers of all levels will hike to Mysterious Points South to watch the sun drop into the ocean. We will be hiking at low tide on firm sand. Sunset will be followed by the rise of the Full Moon, which will light our way back to our campsite. We’ll have a BYO dinner around our campfire. You may want to bring a wine that goes well with marshmallows.  Intermediate hike is about 5 miles. Short is as short as you wish.  Long hike is optional with earlier start.  Continue to the next beach, then climbing some stairs and walking thru the neighborhood of fancy homes, before dropping back to Doran Beach. (Timing is not critical vs. low tide because we can return to the beach from another set of stairs, rather than having to get around the big rock.)  Note: Sunday, not Thursday. NOVEMBER 9: INTERMEDIATE HIKE: ANNADEL-LAKE ILSANJO HIKE –Start from Park Trail Drive on to Rough Go Trail. This trail is a steep rough path to Lake Ilsanjo. Continue on Lake Trail around the lake. Lunch at picnic area. Return via Spring Creek Trail. Hike distance is 5.6 miles, elevation gain 660. Leave Berger Center at 9 a.m. Hike leader is Zlatica Hasa, 843-4527.

NOVEMBER 16th LONG HIKE—SUGARLOAF BRUSHY PEAKS – This is a strenuous hike of 9 miles with an elevation gain of over 2,500 feet. We will hike the Hillside and Brushy Peaks trails to Bald Mountain. Then down by way of Headwaters, Vista and Lower Bald trails. There are lots of ups, downs and up again on our ascent. Dress in layers, bring poles, water and lunch. Leave Berger at 8:30am. NOVEMBER 16th – INTERMEDIATE HIKE – BARTHOLOMEW PARK -SONOMA We will start at Sebastiani Winery, walk to Bartholomew Park and hike on the loop trail through oaks, redwoods and madrones, returning to the picnic area of the park for lunch. NOVEMBER 30th – LONG HIKE – GUNSIGHT EXPRESS – This one-way hike, starting in Sugarloaf and ending in Hood Mountain Park, is only a bit over eight miles. The initial trek up Goodspeed Trail makes it feel a bit longer, especially when combined with the 2000’ elevation gain. But after ooh-ing and aah-ing at the views from Gunsight Overlook, it’s (almost) all downhill. Bring lunch & water, hiking poles, state & regional parking passes if you have them, and be prepared for changeable weather. We’ll leave Berger at 8:30 am; hike leader is Jeanne Osterland, 978-4212. Note: if we have much early, rainy weather, the one creek crossing may be a tad more difficult. Creek status will be posted on-line a few days prior to the hike.



A REMINDER TO ALL HIKERS:  If the hiking trail is more than 30 miles round trip from Oakmont, it is customary to compensate your driver at least $5.00 for gas.
