This active outdoor club provides Oakmont residents the opportunity to hike with others in local parks and open space areas. Club hikes are held each Thursday generally in Sonoma, Marin and Napa counties. As well, the club sponsors an annual potluck dinner, a summertime barbecue, and a Spring and a Fall “Tri-Niter” hiking getaway.
Info: Trione-Annadel Update. As of Feb 17th an additional loop in the otherwise closed area has been opened. This info is a little obscure on the State Park website, but here it is including a map… http://www.parks.ca.gov/pages/480/files/Revised_Closure_Orders_TASP_2-17-18.pdf
Info: The Sonoma Ecology Center at the Developmental Center in Glen Ellen is offering free guided hikes of about two miles on Saturday and Sunday mornings explaining how they see the effect of the fires and the natural recovery process. These have now moved to Sugarloaf and elsewhere, and will continue indefinitely as the plants change and evolve. Recommended. Free tickets (to control group size) are available on their website https://www.sonomaecologycenter.org/
NOTICE: $10 ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP DUES TAKE EFFECT IN 2018
After operating since its inception with no formal membership list, The Oakmont Hiking Club is instituting annual dues of $10. Members will receive emails about hikes, tri-nighters and other events. Revenues will help offset costs such as first-aid kits and reimbursement of some expenses incurred by tri-nighter planners.
The membership form is here and the $10 fee will be collected at the annual Potluck Dinner in January and includes admittance to the event to which non-members are welcome, but will be charged $5 admission. If you miss the potluck, please place the form and check in the OHC folder at the OVA office.
Although not a prerequisite to go on Thursday hikes, membership is strongly encouraged. Non-members will be charged $5 to register for a tri-nighter, $5 to attend the January Potluck Dinner, and $8 (vs. $5 for members) at the August Picnic.
Upcoming Special Events:
Spring Trinighter 2018 April 30th – May 3rd
GUALALA / POINT ARENA
Update 2/12/2018: Registrations for this event are now at capacity. A waiting list will be established. – details click here
